The Glass Wheatfield “a Tribute to Farmers” marked the beginning of Berting Glass. It was unveiled in the Meadow of the Mackenzie Art Gallery in 1992. It encompassed 14000 shimmering clear glass wheat in a metal base. Jacky received a Canada Council Grant to Create this beautiful work of art and was also awarded a Saskatchewan Culture Grant to assist in the completion of it. It toured to the Douglas Udell Gallery in Vancouver BC and Edmonton, Alberta and was later purchased by the Regina Civic Museum.
“Some of my greatest memories as a young girl were running through the crisp green wheat field with my arms outstretched: it gave me an incredible feeling of freedom. I have never forgotten this feeling & am still inspired and influenced by it today.”
Berting was born in St. Gregor Saskatchewan, Canada in 1967. She attended Red Deer College in 1987, taking Foundations Arts, and Sheridan College in Oakville Ontario, 1987-1990, where she majored in Glass. While at Sheridan College she received the Clay & Glass Art Association & Ontario Crafts Council Awards, and in 1990 the Glass Indus-man Award & The Sheridan College Auction Award which she used to studied Iron Art and Blacksmithing at Penland Summer School in North Carolina, 1990. Berting Glass supplies hand-made gift ware to over 50 Gallery and Gift shops across Canada. This glass work has been given and presented to Dignitaries, Celebrities, Delegates, the Royal family, Presidents, Prime Ministers, NHL Stars, and Friends & Family around the world.
James Clark, was born in billings Montana, is also a self-taught artist & craftsman, and builds glass blowing Equipment. @_toolboy
In 1996 Berting and Husband James Clark created “The House of Perception”. A clear glass and iron house consisting of over 400 sand cast glass panels.10.5 feet x 6.5 feet x 9 feet high. Jacqueline Received a Saskatchewan Arts Board Grant to create it. In 1998 Jacky completed a commission for the University of Regina’s New Fine Arts Campus encompassing 200 glass Panels in the Dining area. Jacqueline and James also created and installed a large Commission “The Story Wall” for the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut in Iqaluit,(a gift from the Saskatchewan Legislature), and “Generations of Memories” a sand cast glass wall at The City of Weyburn in Sask., and a Centennial commemorative wall in St. Gregor Sask.( For Images See Installations and Commissions)
In December 2005, Jacqueline received a Centennial Medal of Honor and Celebrations of the Arts Pin for the contributions she has made donating to countless charities and fundraisers across Saskatchewan and Canada.
Jacqueline and James have two grown children; Bryce and Luke, who have worked and assisted at Berting Glass throughout the years.
